Time to Play Catch Up, Part V

APRIL & MAY
"Mellow Maren" (as we loved to refer to her) turned 1 year old April 14th! Notice I used past tense "loved" because overnight her inner DIVA came to life!  She is saucy, sassy, still sweet, but boy can she turn it on and off at the flip of a switch!  Jesse celebrated his 36th birthday, Quinten and Maren have become quite the duo, Gwen completed 2nd grade, and we had to say a very sad farewell to Ms. Cheri, Gwen's physical therapist of 7 years, because she moved to West Virginia :(.
MAY CONT'D
My amazing, wonderful, and beautiful grandmother turned 90!  Oma and I packed up Quinten, Maren, and my growing baby belly (Jesse stayed home with Gwen) and traveled to Michigan to spend some long overdue quality time with her and my extended family.  It was so nice to show Quinten around town and to see and do all of the things I did when I was his age.  We ate a lot (as usual), spent a lot of time outside, met new 2nd cousins, and just enjoyed eachother's company.
JUNE
Summer arrived and I am always looking to fill our days up with activities to pass the time faster!  Quinten and Gwen participated in Vacation Bible School, "Pie Face" competitions, lots of swimming with family, and summer movie fun with Ms. Cassie! Anything to stay cool!!!
June was also "Medical Emergency Month" in our house.  Quinten got into a fight with the fireplace and the fireplace won! One visit to the dentist, one busted lower lip, hello laughing gas, and adios two fractured front teeth!

Gwen doesn't have much of a fat pad between her skin and the rods along her spine.  After one of her incisions opened for the third time, I decided enough was enough and we needed to get this hole closed up permanently!  Thankfully her orthopedic surgeon agreed.  While under anesthesia, the hole was cleaned and sutured and her rods were expanded. Thanks be to God the surgery is so far successful and the hole has remained closed!

JULY
Gwen started summer school at the Foundation for Blind Children.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE going back there because she gets to reconnect with her old preschool gang!  The staff are so wonderful with the children in supporting them and offering them opportunities to better understand their environment since most of the children have little to no verbal communication and vision.  Quinten and one of his BFF's, Yulian, went out for some fun play time before they go their separate ways to different schools :(.  Fortunately Gwen was finally able to enjoy some time in the pool with Ms. Cassie after her back healed.
Quinten started KINDERGARTEN!!! I swear I just birthed him!

Introducing our newest nephew, Patrick Conor McDonald (3/27/17) and niece, Lilly Anne McDonald (6/28/17)!

AUGUST
Happy 5th Birthday to Quinten Thomas!  Jesse and I took Quinten to a local waterpark with a few of his close friends for his special day.  I am too large, too tired, too uncomfortable, and too close to my due date to plan anything grandiose this year!
