Cadillac Girl

I'm learning that patience and perseverance are the name of the game when it comes to insurance and getting Gwen the equipment she needs to help with mobility and her overall well-being.

After being denied a chair (seating/positioning device) twice, we were able to fulfill Gwen's birthday wish and get her the Special Tomato Sitter!  Thank you everyone she loves it!  This chair helps provide Gwen the opportunity to see the world from a new perspective instead of lying on her back and staring at the ceiling!

Back in December we all went to the Wheelchair Clinic for children in Phoenix to order Gwen a wheelchair.  It was almost as exciting as picking out a new car!  We were able to pick the make, color (sparkly root beer), and offer input on what support we felt Gwen would benefit from.  After months and months of waiting on insurance to make up their mind, insurance finally approved the wheelchair and we picked up Gwen's "Cadillac" last week!  Because each wheelchair is custom fitted to each child and their needs, there is a lot of padding and support to help keep Gwen's back, hips, and head in line.   It's quite an adjustment from the wheelchair we were borrowing from her preschool, but in time, I am sure we will all learn to love it!

Over the last three months Jesse and I have been searching for our new home.  We didn't find our house this particular day, but we did find an awesome surprise!  Something caught Jesse's eye hidden behind a recycle bin and immediately I knew what it was.....a Gate Trainer in perfect condition!  Surely there was no way someone was just going to throw this away, it costs over $1500 brand new!  Fortunately for us the seller got rid of something that day, unfortunately it wasn't their house!  Gwen's able to sit/stand in the Gate Trainer and step with her legs to help push her forward.   We're still working on ideas to get her more upright, but she loves her "bike"!
